Biography

Juan Francisco Escudero Espinosa is a Titular Professor of Public International Law and International Relations and teaches in Public International Law, European Community Law and other doctorate courses in international protection of human rights, the International Criminal Court and international criminal responsability.

In the past, Profesor Escudero Espinosa was a University Professor, an Assistant Professor and an Associate Professor at the University of Leon (Spain). He was an Assistant Professor and taught in several sessions of the Université d’été des droits de l’homme in Geneva (Switzerland). He stayed for research and teaching at the Centre d’Études et de Recherches Internationales et Communautaires of the Université Paul Cézanne in Aix-en-Provence (France), and at the Centre de Recherche en Droit Public of the Université de Montréal (Canada). Professor Escudero Espinosa was the director of a summer course on «La protección de los más vulnerables en una sociedad democrática» [The protection of the most vulnerable in a democratic society], and was the Secretary of the Faculty of Law of the University of Leon for a period of six months. He was appointed Vice Secretary-General of the University of Leon in July 2008.

He is the author of Cuestiones en torno a la intervención humanitaria y el Derecho internacional [Questions on Humanitarian Intervention and Currently International Law], Aproximación histórica a la noción de intervención humanitaria en el Derecho internacional [Historical Approach to the Humanitarian Notion in International Law] (Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de León, 2002), and of La Corte Penal Internacional y el Consejo de Seguridad: Hacia la paz por la justicia [The International Criminal Court and the Security Council: From Justice to Peace] (Dilex, 2004), and authored a dozen of articles in several journals in the field of public international law.

He was a member of a research project on international production and trade of genetically modified organisms and he is working on several publications in this field. Currently, he is doing research in a new project on the national and regional application of the European Community norms regulating the security of the biotechnology.
